Remembering Our Friend Zoner

It is with deep honor and a crushed heart, that I let you know of Zoner's silence. He left us on Wednesday, June 1st.

Zoner overcame his tragic childhood with an enormous intellectual bandwidth. His grasp of life passionately embraced the silly and the solemn. His delight with a banana-peel pratfall was an informed delight. His embrace of the solemn was correspondingly informed and filled with grace. He was peer to humanity's tiny and select cadre of the truly authentic.

His constant view of life was viewed through a Big Picture lens where he found life's woven connection to everything.  

He was a seeker.
This farewell has broken my heart.

I’m extremely saddened to hear that we have lost another member of our family.  June 1, 2022.  Zoner.  He put his heart into the site, whether it was a personal or political topic, or consoling someone who had personal issues.  When someone was down, he was a good ‘say it with a song’ person with a vast library to work with.  We will miss the voice of reason he often gave to unreasonable conversations.  His wit and wisdom.  He searched for the truth with a passion.  I was always excited to see what he had to say, and experience the feeling he put into words to say it.

He was one part of a small group of friends who I had known the longest.  I was first introduced to Zoner in January of 2009.  He didn’t know of my early admiration though as I lurked until August 26, 2009.

He was the first person who looked around for me in that beginning.  I posted the first page here on September 4 of 2009.  It just sat here.  In February 28 of 2010 I plugged Disqus into the site.  It only had a few articles.  It sat.  No traffic…then…the very first comment to the site was from Arizoner.  He was originally ‘Arizoner’, proud of his Arizona home.  It was October 21, 2011.  It was a simple reply I would see dozens of times.  ‘Woof.’

Zoner was one of a small group of people who were responsible for people moving to this site.  Zoner, Levin, BTrade, were the first few to make the jump. That was February 15 of 2014.  He was instrumental in getting people here from TVNewser, and for keeping them here.  He was a rallying cry, and everyone wanted to know what he had to say next.

On a personal note, Zoner was one of three people here at the site who I have met personally.  It was on the big Rocky Mountain driving trip.  We were staying in Las Vegas for our 20^th Anniversary.  Originally we were going to stay in Laughlin for a few days, but excitement about Colorado knocked out those days.  We still wanted to meet Zoner.  We drove to Laughlin (Bullhead City) so we could meet.  I looked on a map yesterday to see the house.  Everything came back like we had just returned from the trip.  Zoner and his wife were fantastic.  We could have stayed there all night talking.  He ordered pizza.  We saw the great view from the back porch that he has often posted here.  It was as beautiful as the pictures.  I was bathed by his ultra-friendly dog.  LOL!!!

He knew we liked fireworks, and that we had missed the fireworks we went to Las Vegas for.  Caesars Palace, at the last minute, decided to shoot them off early.  He said ‘the best fireworks you will ever see is at Avi Resorts and Casino.'  He told us where to go, then we stayed until he said that we had just enough time to get there.  When we left he said he was glad we came by and said we were really nice.  He turned to his wife and said… ‘TEXAS nice’.  It was a great time.  His Fireworks recommendation?  It was definitely in the top 3 fireworks shows we have ever seen.  We had hoped to go back on another trip and meet him again, but the virus messed up that schedule.

 For a long time we will definitely feel the voice that is no longer with us.  Rest in peace, Zoner…TB…

 

 Lets all post some words or music for Zoner.  Sometimes he tried, but he never could stay away.  He is probably reading us right now...TB...
