Safety Tips from The Conservative Truth

We are coming into the summer months, and we here at The Conservative Truth want our posters and lurkers to have a safe summer, so they can happily continue as part of our wonderful community.

First safety tip:

Did you know:  It is estimated that approximately 800 spinal cord injuries resulting from diving into a body of water occur each year in the United States.1 Approximately ¾ occur in the natural aquatic environment (lakes, ponds, streams, etc.) while the remaining amount occur in swimming pools. It is estimated that ninety percent of these incidents occur in water depths less than 6 feet.

Most pool start at a depth of 42".  Be careful, and warn those around you pool engaging in summer fun that 42" is NOT a safe depth for diving.  Even without a diving board, many are tempted to just 'jump in'.  You don't want the loud noise at your party to be joyous laughter or party horns.  NOT the sound of ambulance sirens.

Also from the above referenced article:

The American Red Cross recommends a minimum of 9 feet of water depth for head first dives including dives from pool decks.

Here are more tips on pool depths:

The comment featured below is an example of the possible dangers of diving.  I personally recommend marking the sides of the pool with the depths, and insuring all who visit be informed of the dangers.

Have a safe summer, and...SAFE SWIMMING!!!  TB...

Do not let paralysis from a spinal injury be your future!!!
